Providing Technical Assistance and Training for Crisis Response Systems Worldwide

Crisis Response and Intervention Training (CRIT)

for Schools

THE TRAINING

The Crisis Response and Intervention Training (CRIT) for Schools is an 8-hour training program designed to prepare elementary, junior high, and high school personnel, as well as school resource officers, in their response and interaction with children and adolescents experiencing crises related to behavioral health conditions (including mental health conditions and substance use disorders) and intellectual and developmental disabilities. This training is based upon the original CRIT curriculum for Law Enforcement.

The goals of the curriculum include:

    • Increase understanding of a child's and adolescent's brain development
    • Recognize signs of suicidal ideation and crises
    • Apply age-specific de-escalation skills and strategies

Train-the-Trainer

Crisis Response Programs and Training offers a 3-day in-person train-the-trainer of this course.  Attendees will not only learn how to deliver the training, but also learn how to conduct scenario based training.  After successful completion of the course, attendees will have access to the full curriculum to provide the training to their school personnel in their communities.

Past Attendees' Comments

"CRPT did an outstanding job taking a vision and creating an easily deliverable training program for the education system. The detail and effort put into the CRIT for Schools Train-the-Trainer course was on full display, and we feel fully prepared to deliver this invaluable training course to our local educators. With this program, we move one step closer to addressing behavioral health crises in the most appropriate manner by the most appropriate means."
~ Lieutenant Craig Parker, Tuscaloosa Police Department

“I cannot speak highly enough about the exceptional quality and impact of the ‘Train the Trainer’ provided by Crisis Response Programs and Training for our School Resource Officers (SROs) and School Social Workers. This specialized training was invaluable, equipping our team with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to students facing mental health crises, with content specifically tailored for K-12 educators. The real-life, scenario-based training provided is incredibly empowering, giving school personnel the hands-on practice they need to feel confident and prepared when responding to students in crisis. This approach ensures that staff are not only knowledgeable but also equipped to handle these challenging situations effectively. The flexibility of the curriculum makes it adaptable for various audiences, which is incredibly valuable, especially with the numerous competing demands for staff time and resources. This approach makes it easier to integrate this essential training without overwhelming our personnel.”
~ Tesney Davis, LICSW-S, Administrator of Mental Health and Social Services, Tuscaloosa City Schools
